Therapy Techniques

There are numerous types of therapy, as well as a multitude of intervention techniques that our trained psychologists utilise here at Merit Health Clinic. Dependent on the client and their needs, our skilled psychologists apply treatments and methods from an array of tried and tested models such as:

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

CBT is a type of psychological therapy that helps you alter unhelpful thought processes and behaviours. It can include problem solving, cognitive restructuring, mindfulness, and relaxation.

Interpersonal Therapy (IPT)

IPT focuses on relationships and how they affect your psychological well-being. Designed to help you recognise problems, and make changes for more fulfilling relationships, IPT has been incredibly successful when it comes to repairing those relationships you thought were irreparable.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

ACT is aptly named, a program focused on working with clients to understand and accept what is out of their control. This is achieved through teaching a range of psychological skills to manage painful thoughts and reduce harmful impact, as well as developing a guiding principle tied to your values and active commitments that serve to inspire and motivate.

Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy

MBCT combines 2 of the major pillars in mental health – Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Cognitive Therapy.  Sessions can include Meditation, body scan exercises and even yoga.

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy

DBT is a type of talking therapy. Based on cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), it has been adapted for individuals who feel emotions very intensely. Designed to shift unhelpful ways of thinking and behaving, the aim is to work towards self-acceptance and understanding.
