Dr. Abdul Barakat is the founder and CEO of our mental health clinic. As a registered psychologist in Australia, he prides himself on providing outstanding care to each and every one of our patients.
The founder of Merit Health
Dr. Barakat is a medical professional, and MBA holder who has been in the field for decades. He started his career in Medicine in the early 90’s and went on to graduate from the famed Aleppo University School of Medicine in his native Syria. But that doesn’t even begin to tell the story of his incredible journey.
Coming to America
From there, he decided to take his talents abroad and pursue pastures new. After much thought and consideration, Dr Barakat decided to venture across the Atlantic Ocean, finally arriving in North America.
If you’ve ever made a move overseas, or even to a new town across the country, you’ll know all too well the challenges one faces. But that didn’t deter Dr Barakat in the slightest, it was quite the opposite actually; he got straight to work. Dr Barakat spent more than a decade working in various medical centres, perfecting his work and helping patients with his unique approach and extensive experience.
Refining his work
After establishing himself as an authority in the medical field, he went on to become board certified in; anaesthesiology, pain management, critical care, spinal cord stimulation implantation, percutaneous discectomy, and vertebroplasty kyphoplasty, no mean feat.
Additionally, he received a certificate from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, recognising his tireless work abroad. After his 20+ years of experience in the states, Dr. Barakat was again wanting to broaden his horizons, this time setting his sights on the shores of Australia.
Launching in Sydney
That brings us to the present day, where with the help of some of his trusted colleagues, Dr Barakat founded Merit Health Clinic, a multidisciplinary health clinic located in Sydney’s west.
With extensive experience in the field, and a focus on providing the highest quality of care to his patients, Dr Barakat and his passionate team strive to give you the most effective and comprehensive treatment available.
