What is Anxiety

We’re sure you’ve probably heard of the term anxiety, but what exactly does it mean? Anxiety is your body’s natural response to stress. Generally characterized by feelings of fear, worry, or unease, it triggers the body’s fight or flight response, resulting in a heightened state of discomfort.

While anxiety is very normal in many situations, people that suffer from disorders relating to it are usually unable to control the emotional and physical symptoms. This inability to regulate emotions can make it extremely difficult to function in daily life and complete important tasks.

What Causes Anxiety

Anxiety can be caused by many different things. Depending on the individual, and the type of anxiety they are suffering from, the symptoms can also vary. For example, you may be dealing with separation anxiety, which is usually caused by forced separation from a loved one. Or you may struggle with social anxiety disorder, feeling anxiety symptoms arise
when you’re around large groups of people. Whatever type of anxiety you may be dealing with, rest assured there’s a way to treat it.

To determine the type of anxiety that you may have and figure out what the root causes are, your psychologist may request you take an anxiety test. This will help you learn ways to avoid an anxiety attack and begin working on lessening the impact.

It is especially effective for helping you build the coping mechanisms you need to develop a healthier, happier life.

Do I Have Anxiety?

There are several physical symptoms associated with anxiety, such as chest pain or shortness of breath. Or you might simply feel overwhelmed or depressed.

When a person is struggling with anxiety, the symptoms can vary from person to person depending on what type of anxiety they have. The severity of a person’s anxiety also affects what an anxiety attack will feel and look like to an individual.
